Intended as a replacement for the ordinary Decora “glass block” used in modern construction, Heat and Harvest is conceptual prototype for a modular building component that captures light energy through a Fresnel lens during winter hours to create a heating element, while becoming completely self shaded during summer months. This angle of the lens and depth of the aperture was optimized for a southern-facing wall in the NY area using recorded sun-path data and Ecotect analytic software.

Software Utilized: Ecotect, Generative Components, Rhino, MasterCamX
Data Used: New York - Central Park Weather Station - 12 mos.
Materials: Acrylic, Aluminum, Fresnel lenses
Digital Fabrication Tools: 3-Axis Mill
